Vietnam 13th Party Congress gathers to pick new leadership

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam kicks off the 13th Party Congress in Hanoi with a preparation session Monday.

The congress, held every five years, will gather 1,587 delegates representing 5.1 million Party members across the country, up 77 compared to the 12th Party congress and marking the biggest such event so far.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam kicks off the 13th Party Congress in Hanoi with a preparation session Monday.

For the preparation session, the congress will go through the meeting agenda and election regulations.

The congress will officially open on Tuesday and last for nine days, during which it will select new leadership of the Party, the state, the government and legislative National Assembly for the next five years, as well as shaping policies for the nation’s socio-economic development in the 2021-2025 period and set orientations for development until 2030 with a vision until 2045.
