Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, Vietnam's leading female martial artist, secured a gold medal following victory in the final round of the under-49kg category during the Asian Open Taekwondo Championship which took place at the Military Region 7 competition hall on August 16.
During the first round, Tuyen enjoyed a strong start as she beat her Chinese rival Zou Ju, earning three points. The 22-year-old girl maintained her good form with a second-round victory.

However, in the next round, her Chinese opponent turned the tables by scoring three points. Tuyen immediately hit back by adding a point before using defensive tactics in the last minutes and finishing the game with a final score of 4-3.
Her achievement is the first medal gold for the Vietnamese team in the combat category at the tournament.
Two other female martial artists, including Nguyen Thi Huong and Nguyen Thi Trang, competed against each other in the final round of the women’s 73 kg category. Huong secured a 11-0 win against Trang and won the second gold medal for the nation’s taekwondo team.
