VTF Pro Tour 4: Third title for Ho Chi Minh City

The VTF Pro Tour 4 – Hung Thinh Cup 2018 officially wrapped up on October 1 with the third title for the Hung Thinh-Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City team won by Le Quoc Khanh and Le Phuoc Dang in the men’s doubles category.

The men’s doubles final saw Quoc Khanh and Phuoc Dang claim the first set with ease at 6-2, but faced stubborn resistance from Bui Tri Nguyen and Nguyen Anh Thang of the Hai Dang Tay Ninh team in the set no. 2.

The HCM City pair had to resort to tie-breaks to beat their opponents 7-4 and clinch the overall trophy in a convincing fashion.

It was the third crown for the HCM City team throughout the tournament, following the women’s singles triumph by Alizé Lim and the women’s doubles victory by Alizé Lim and Phan Nhu Quynh on September 30.

Regarding the men’s singles category, veteran player Hoang Thanh Trung of the People’s Public Security team was crowned the overall champion following his hard-fought 2-1 win over Nguyen Dac Tien of Hanoi.

Tien continued to show his impressive form by breaking Trung to lead 3-1 in the first set. However, with his abundant experience, Trung leveled the score at 3-3 before claiming the set 6-4.

21-year-old Tien then made several adjustments in terms of psychology and strategies, which helped him to blast a fantastic 6-2 victory in the second set.

The final was forced into the decisive third set, during which Thanh Trung beat his Hanoi opponent 6-4 to top the men’s doubles podium.

The VTF Pro Tour 4 took place from September 23 to October 1, offering VND40 million (US$1,720) and VND30 million (US$1,290) for the men’s and women’s singles champions, respectively. The winners of the men’s and women’s doubles events received corresponding stakes of VND10 million and VND8 million.
