(BGO) – A one – month old baby from Quang Ninh province was hospitalized at Vietnam National Children's Hospital on February 13 in critical condition of low hemoglobin, severe anemia with urgent need of blood transfusion.
The blood sources need other indicators than the blood group system A, B, O and AB, but the the reserve at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (Institute) was no longer available.

The Institute immediately checked the list of dozens of thousands of blood donors and found one with compatible indicators to such infant. He is Captain Ngo Trung Hieu (born in 1988) and Vice Head of Police Division in Cao Thuong town in Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province). The Institute made urgent contact to the Red Cross Society (RCS) in Tan Yen district for assistance.
As soon as receiving the proposal from the district RCS, Captain Ngo Trung Hieu reported to the leader of the district Public Security and asked for leave to the Institute so as to give his blood and save the baby. The district RCS cooperated with the district Medical Center to arrange a pick up car for him.
After screening and ensuring the requirement, Hieu donated 350ml of blood to save the infant, which proved good deed of humanitarian and responsibility for community.
It is his fifth times Ngo Trung Hieu has donated his blood.
