Overseas Vietnamese celebrate traditional Tet festival

The Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic joined various get-togethers across the European country to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The events were organised in major localities such as Prague, Ostrava and Brno, and those in the border regions.

At a get-together held in Chomotov city of the northern province of Ustecky of the Czech Republic.

At a programme held in Chomotov city of the northern province of Ustecky, member of the Czech Senate Premysl Rabas spoke highly of the role and practical contributions by the Vietnamese community to the local socio-economic development as well as the countries’ friendship.

Cultural activities of the community have helped people in the European country understand better about the Vietnamese culture, he added.

Overseas Vietnamese in Egypt and Russia held similar events to mark the largest yearly festival of Vietnam.

Tet of the San Diu ethnic minority group
The San Diu ethnic minority group, who live in northern mountainous areas with a population of nearly 147,000, celebrate quite a lot of festivals the most important of which is Tet, the lunar New Year festival.

Over 48,700 Tet gift presented to the poor
(BGO) – Responding to the campaign “Tet for the poor”, as of January 21, Bac Giang province called for the donation to present more than 48,700 Tet gifts in cash to the poor and near poor families via the Fatherland Front’s Committee at all levels, each worth 300 – 500,000 VND (total value hit over 19 billion VND or 823,500 USD). 
 
Vietnam Airlines flies outstanding workers home for Tet
The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines have flown over 1,000 outstanding workers working in the southern provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City back to their home town for the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
