(BGO) - The traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday 2020 is nearing. With the spirit of "The whole country joins hands for the poor - no one is left behind," agencies at all levels, sectors and localities in Bac Giang province have been organizing many programmes to take care of the poor and families in especially difficult circumstances so that they can enjoy a warm new spring.
For all poor people to have Tet
As a tradition, whenever the Tet holiday and the spring come, units, businesses and individuals join hands to help every poor person have Tet. In order to take care of those with difficult circumstances effectively, the provincial Red Cross Society has soon launched the campaign "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims".
Leaders of the provincial Labor Federation hand over the support expense to build “Trade Union Cozy House” to Ngan Thi Lot in Thanh Van commune (Hiep Hoa district) on Tet occasion.
On average, each year, the society at all levels has mobilized nearly 20 billion VND (863,000 USD), including cash and in kind (necessities for Tet holiday), for poor households and victims of toxic chemicals throughout the province. On the occasion of the Year of the Rat, the provincial Red Cross Society has persuaded organizations and individuals to donate nearly 10 billion VND.
Recently, in the humanitarian journey to bring the spring to the poor, the provincial Red Cross Society has coordinated with the Thien Tam Fund (VinGroup) to organize visits and present gifts to 600 poor households in An Lap and Le Vien communes ( Son Dong distict), each worth 600,000 VND.
In addition to the poor in Son Dong district, through the provincial Red Cross Society, the Thien Tam Fund delivered 4,000 Tet gifts to the poor in Bac Giang province.
Every Lunar New Year, the gifts of benefactors, though not great in material value, are above all the sharing, helping the poor feel happier and more motivated to rise up in life. Therefore, each level, sector, unit and locality has its own ways and different forms of supporting the poor.
For the provincial Labor Federation, in addition to giving gifts and bus tickets to disadvantaged workers and those living far away returning home to celebrate Tet, this year, the unit has spent more than 550 million VND from the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund to help trade union members renovate their houses.
Joining hands for no one left behind
Taking care of the poor during the Lunar New Year is part of the social security policy, demonstrating the noble action and national tradition. This also creates motivation and confidence for the poor to rise up in life.
Members of the Ket noi trai tim (Heart Connection) Club (the provincial Red Cross Society) present banh chung (square glutinous rice cake) to patients being nurtured at the provincial General Social Protection Centre.
Tran Cong Thang, Chairman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee, said with the motto "Everyone and every home has Tet, no one is left behind", in addition to launching programmes to raise support from agencies, units and socio-political organizations in the province, we have also sent a letter calling on businesses to join hands to provide a warm Tet for the poor, striving for all poor households to receive gifts".
Along with the provincial Fatherland Front Committee, the "Tet for the poor" movement has spread strongly with specific programmes bearing the marks of each agency, unit, and charity group.
Typically, the provincial Red Cross Society has the campaign "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims" and the provincial Labor Federation maintains the programme "Love Spring – Tet Reunion". Meanwhile, the provincial Women's Union and Youth Union present gifts to poor women and children for Tet...
In the localities, besides encouraging "sponsors", the Party committees and authorities have also set aside resources to take care of the poor during Tet. Nguyen Viet Oanh, Secretary of the Luc Ngan district Party Committee, said the district has more than 3,700 poor households, just behind Son Dong district.
In addition to the goal of having all poor households provided Tet gifts, to show its interest in social security, the district Party Committee has assigned officials to visit and give Tet gifts to the poor, especially in especially difficult villages where many ethnic minorities are residing.
A new spring is coming. For the poor, their joy in the New Year is the feeling from the love and sharing of the community. The gifts, despite their small material value, are very meaningful to them.
