The information on heath conditions, benefits, procedures and things to know before and after donating blood is broadcast on the local loudspeaker system everyday.
Since 2006, the Red Cross Society proposed the communal people’s committee to spend fund supporting blood donors for transportation fees at 100,000 VND (4.3 USD) per each.
“Before, the youth was the main force of the blood donation campaign but now it lures active participation of farmers, women, and even former soldiers”, said Nguyen Xuan Lam, Chairman of the communal Red Cross Society.
Thanks to good implementation of advocacy and mobilization, Viet Tien commune has headed the humanitarian blood donation movement of the district for many years. More than 150 local people donate blood annually, reaching 200 percent of the assigned target.
The Steering Board for Voluntary Blood Donation of the district received 1,977 blood units at the VBD festival this year, up 477 units against the plan.
“As far as I know from the information channels, the blood reserve for medical treatment becomes rare. Hence, I have donated blood since 2012 and mobilized my relatives and friends to join”, said Nguyen Ngoc Hanh in Bich Son commune. This is the 8th time Hanh has joined blood donation campaign.
The voluntary blood donation attracts many donors.
Viet Yen district has maintained the VBD festival since 2006. They faced a lot of difficulties at very beginning. Later, the district consolidated the steering committees of the communes and towns, diversified propaganda methods and called for pioneering spirit of the cadres and party members.
A number of outstanding individuals and families took part in VBD movement such as Duong Thao Nguyen in Tien Son commune (30 times), Nguyen Tuan anh in Viet Tien commune (16 times) and Nguyen Van Quang in Nghia Trung commune (30 times).
Based on the gained results, Viet Yen district planned to organize the VBD festival in January 2020 expecting about 600 blood donors.
