Physical education innovation at school

(BGO) – For recent two years, several schools in the northern province of Bac Giang have innovated the physical activities to replace the tedious feeling for the monotonous actions and inspire the students.

Implementing the instruction from the Ministry of Education and Training, the provincial Department of Education and Training (DoET) has issued many documents to guide the whole sector to innovate the curriculum of physical education (PE) since April 2018. Typically, the morning exercise, break exercise and traditional martial art are added into school. The DoET also held training course to the key teachers before duplication.

According to Nguyen Van Them, Deputy Director of DoET, the action was generally welcomed by the teachers and students at 782 educational facilities in the province. Targeting at the deep and wide innovation, the DoET instructed the facilities to organise the practice and exchange events for the students at different classes and schools.

In spite of the local limited budget, each school took the proactive in communication to call for the donations from various organisations, enterprises and parents to revamp and build the facilities for the students’ physical practice.

Particularly, Nha Nam Primary School (Tan Yen district) has joined hand with a private enterprise to invest in an artificial turf football field with a total value of over 700 million VND (over 30,100 USD); Bich Son Secondary School (Viet Yen district) called for parents’ donations in cash and man date to build the yard for doing physical exercise at the school campus.

Thanks to good execution of socialisation, the province has 71 swimming pools at the schools where the students get swimming course on summer vacation.

Creating exciting movement

Acknowledging the necessity of PE innovation in school, Luc Ngan High School added the traditional martial art and dance into the regular activities in this academic year. On the break after two lessons in every morning, more than 1,700 students line up in order to practice 45 actions of the traditional martial art.

To date, 80 percent of the school have built facilities for sports activities while there are more than 2,300 clubs of basket ball, volleyball, badminton, traditional martial art, swimming…under frequent operation. All primary schools in the province organise morning exercise, break exercise in a close connection with traditional martial art and dance in daily activities.

Teacher Nguyen Thanh Trung, Vice Head Master shared that to help the students quickly access to the new method of practice, the school not only expedites the group of PE teacher to take regular check and additional training in the PE lessons but also launches a contest of traditional martial art. All the students at the classes are excited to participate in the event to perform the beautiful and strong moves.

Since 2017, the DoET has coordinated with the provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to hold the programme of “Dancing in school yard” to create a new wind to the PE activities.

“Much different from previous time, nowadays my friends and I always look forward to joining the PE lesson. The simple and strong moves on an exciting music background truly inspire us”, said Bui Thanh Thuy, a student at class 8A, Tan My Secondary School (Bac Giang city).

Under the new educational curriculum, the PE will be a compulsory subject from grade one to grade 12 since 2021. Thus, the government should pay due attention to mobilising the budget to invest in basic condition for executing the PE activities while the leader of each school needs to call for the socialisation to ensure enough the facilities and equipment for teaching and studying.

Besides, the DoET will continue coordinating with the facilities to organise several contests and competitions to create an attractive playground for the student to increase the physical practice, development as well as improve the stature.

The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong; representatives of DoET and Viet Bach Architect Joint Stock Company (Viet Bach JSC).
