Entertainment activities to be suspended during upcoming national mourning

Entertainment activities will be suspended during the two-day national mourning for former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Do Muoi on October 6-7.

According to Dispatch 4500/CD-BVHTTDL issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on October 4, State agencies across the country as well as representative offices of Vietnam abroad to fly national flags at haft-mast in the two days.

Delegations can pay homage to the former leader at National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, where he is laid in state, and Thong Nhat (Reunification) Hall in Ho Chi Minh City. They are asked not to bring wreaths but mourning bands to the funeral.

The ministry also requested other ministries, sectors as well as central agencies, organizations and State agencies to suspend celebrative events, art programmes, sports competitions and entertainment activities on October 6-7.

The People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities should direct and guide organizations, individuals and entertainment facilities to delay art and sports events as well as entertainment activities in their localities during the two-day mourning.

The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have issued a special communiqué, announcing that former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Do Muoi passed away at 23:12 on October 1, 2018, and his funeral will be held as a national mourning.
