(BGO) – During his 40 years of working, Nguyen Dang Luong (born in 1929) in Ngo Quyen ward (Bac Giang city, Bac Giang province) met Uncle Ho six times. It is a great honor for him, with beautiful memories he will never forget.
A life dedicated to the revolution
The stories of the years participating in the revolution and working, and especially the memories of meetings with Uncle Ho were clearly told by the 91-year-old man having a 73-year Party membership with his agileness, lucidity, and keen eyes.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong presents a gift to Nguyen Dang Luong on the occasion of the International Day for Older Persons.
Born and grown up in Luc Nam district, the orphanage made Luong soon understand the meaning of love and self-improvement of personality and will. The boy was raised by his uncle and sent to Lang Son to study until he was at high school. After the Japanese coup d'état against French colonialist on March 9, 1945, the young man Nguyen Dang Luong returned home and then was soon enlightened and followed the revolution.
In 1948, Luong was fostered by the leaders of the Commission for Information and Education of the Viet Bac Inter-region Party Committee to conduct popularisation work. From 1948 to 1950, he was assigned to be in charge of the news group of the regional Party Committee’s Commission for Information and Education (including 12 Viet Bac (northern) provinces) in Thai Nguyen.
After 5 years serving as head of the Vietnam News Agency’s bureau in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong and Ha Bac, Luong had a long time as a private clerk of the Secretary of the Party Committee of Ha Bac province Le Quang Tuan and then worked at the Organization Commission of the Party Committee and the Department of Sports and Physical Training of Ha Bac province until his retirement in 1985.
Returning to the homeland, he continued to take part in social work, taking leading positions in the ward Party Committee's popularisation and training board, the ward Fatherland Front Committee and the ward Elderly Association, and later the Secretary of the Party cell of the residential area for seven consecutive tenures. In any capacity, he endeavored to build and develop movements.
Honored to meet Uncle Ho six times
During his working time, Luong was honored to meet Uncle Ho six times, in 1946, 1955, 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1967.
Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang city People's Committee Nguyen Huu Dinh presents a gift to Nguyen Dang Luong on the occasion of the International Day for Older Persons.
In 1946, Uncle Ho visited soldiers in a barrack in Bac Giang town. At that time, Luong was a member of the reconnaissance team of the North-North Regiment’s Battalion 517. He was surprised to see that the President was very simple and close with a faded khaki jacket and a pair of worn-out rubber sandals.
The second time in 1955, Uncle Ho visited Bac Giang province on the occasion of the inauguration of the Hanoi - Muc Nam Quan railway. As an official of the popularisation and training board, Luong was honored to be a member of the organizing committee of the meeting to welcome Uncle Ho.
In 1961, as a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Bac Giang, Luong published an article on the occasion of Uncle Ho's visit to Bac Giang and Tan An cooperative (Yen Dung district).
The most impressive one was the meeting with Uncle Ho in 1962. At that time, the North built socialism, with three strongly promoted emulation movements: "Gio Dai Phong" (Dai Phong Wind) in agriculture; "Song Duyen Hai" (Duyen Hai Wave) in industry and "Co Ba Nhat" (Ba Nhat Flag) in military.
After the working trips, Luong had a reportage "Dong Tam cooperative - the second Dai Phong of the North (Dong Tam was an advanced agricultural cooperative of Doan Hung district, Phu Tho province) which was widely published on the mass media. Uncle Ho knew about Dong Tam and immediately visited it. Luong recalled: "I was asked by Uncle Ho about Dong Tam at the office of Phu Tho province and visited this cooperative with him."
The next memorable meeting with Uncle Ho was on the occasion of the Ha Bac provincial Unified Party Congress (in 1963). The congress was honored to welcome Uncle Ho and comrade Truong Chinh. Here, Uncle Ho asked him about the situation of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, the personnel elected to the congress, and the life of the local people. Luong then took a photo with Uncle Ho.
The last time Luong met Uncle Ho was on the Lunar New Year 1967 when the President spent the first day of the new year visiting Ha Bac province. As a clerk of Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Le Quang Tuan, Luong was honored to be with Uncle Ho for the longest time as he accompanied the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee from the time inviting Uncle Ho to visit localities to the time being off the leader back to Hanoi.
Studying and following Uncle Ho's example, Luong is always thrifty, leads a simple life and stays close to everyone. At his old age, besides chatting with his children and grandchildren, and recalling old stories with old friends, most of the time he spends on reading and taking notes of good and right things to continue perfecting himself and lead a happy, healthy and helpful life.
