(BGO) – After 17 months of growing, five sao (old measuring units, each is equal to 360 square meters) of yellow star apple fruit of Le Thi Huong, Director of An Phat Production, Commerce and Service Cooperative in Kep 2 village, Hong Giang commune (Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province) can be harvested with sweet fruits.
Huong said in March 2021, her family invested over 400 million VND to buy nearly 500 seedlings of yellow star apple fruit, white sapote, chocolate rose, durian sugar apple fruit, Taiwanese custard apple and eggfruit and grow in one hectare garden, including 100 yellow star apple fruit trees.

The first harvest came after 17 months of growing, giving 3 to 4 kilogram per tree.
It grows to an average of 5 metres high with wide canopy. When the fruit is ripe, it has smooth, bright yellow skin and one seed. The inside of the fruit is translucent and white. It has a creamy, jelly-like texture. Its’ sweet taste is similar to the mango.

“Now, this fruit is sold on market at 120 – 200,000 VND per kiliogram depending on each type of fruit. I do not sell the first fruits and offer them to visitors,” Huong said.
Vice Head of Luc Ngan district Division of Agriculture and Rural Development Dinh Van Phuong said the family of Le Thi Huong is the first household to successfully grow yellow star apple fruit in Luc Ngan district. Now, these other special trees of her family can be harvested.

The Devision assigend staff to monitor and study the trees. If they are really suitable to local soil and climate, Luc Ngan district will multiply the crops in the upcoming time.
