Lai Chau provincial People’s Committee held a conference on December 13 to devise plans for socio-economic development in 2021 and the 2021-2025 period; discuss state budget estimates and public investment plans for 2021; and announce products under the One Commune – One Product (OCOP) programme in 2020.
From the 88 products selected for the OCOP programme, the relevant agencies classified 47 OCOP products at provincial level this year.
During the 2021-2025 period, Lai Chau will focus on further promoting creative innovation as well as effectively mobilising and using resources and upholding its potential towards developing the locality more sustainably.

Lai Chau strives to achieve a GRDP growth rate of 9-10% per year, average GRDP per capita of VND65 million, and a local budget of VND3 trillion by 2025. The province’s total import-export turnover is expected to increase by 11.5% per year.
Regarding rural development, the province set a target of having over 57.5% of communes meeting new-style rural area standards.
Lai Chau strives to become a well-developed province in the northern mountainous region by 2030.
To accomplish the goals, the provincial authorities have proposed three key programmes and projects during the 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2030, including: a project on developing commodity agriculture, another on developing essential infrastructure in concentrated commodity agricultural production zones, and a project on preserving and promoting the cultural identities of local ethnic minority groups in association with tourism development.
