(BGO) – Due to the more and more restricted farming area, Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province now prioritizes to build organic cultivation models to create products with high quality and economic value.
Moving toward safe production
The food safety is now the first concern of the customers. Viet Yen district has recently realized high quality and organic farming models to increase the products’ value.
Workers harvest the guava at the orchard of Tran Van Tuan in Nguon village, Tu Lan commune.
We visited the guava growing model of family of Tran Van Tuan in Nguon village, Tu Lan commune. The orchard has some 1,300 guava trees among other fruits like green skin pomelo and sapodilla which bear fruits all the year round.
Last year, Tuan harvested 65 tonnes of guava that were sold at average price of 15 – 20,000 VND per kilogram (0.65 – 0.86 USD). His guava is widely preferred by many customers because it is thick in sweet flesh with less seed.
Previously, Tuan spent much time on researching and applying each step to care for the orchard under organic procedure to have the current result. He said the most important of organic farming is to avoid the usage of chemical fertilizer, hence the farm produce will ensure the safety and environment friendly criteria.
Apart from the restricted farming land, Viet Yen district also faced to the shortage of laborers working in the sector. Recently, the district has focused on realizing the project of organic agriculture and using modern application in production.
Particularly, the drone was used to spray the bio plant protection product (PPP) to more than 2 hectares of rice in Lang field, Quang Bieu village, Quang Chau commune in May 2019. Actually, this application is highly appreciated by the competent agency because it helps save the PPP, water and labor; reduce the harm to human; protect the environment and increase the capability to prevent the worm and disease.
In the upcoming time, the district People’s Committee will coordinate with the provincial Center of Agriculture Encouragement to implement the model of growing hi-quality organic rice with close relationship with product consumption and mechanization in 10 hectares at two communes of Van Trung and Minh Duc.
Increasing scale and area
According to Than Van Bang, Vice Head of the district Division of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), to expand the organic production area, firstly the district focused on propagandizing to persuade the farmers to change their cultivation method and gradually reject the chemical fertilizer to care for the crops; reviewing, classifying and listing the production models under VietGap standard which are able to follow organic cultivation then call for their change.
Viet Yen district strives to have 20 percent of cultivation area to be cared by organic fertilizer instead of chemical ones in 2020 and 80 percent by 2025.
Nghia Trung commune now has a pig herd of over 2,700 heads and 124 hectares of fish farming, dozens of which produce under VietGAP standard. Recently, the communal veterinarian has coordinated with the DARD to visit each household to know the production situation and instruct them to follow organic method.
Similarly, with more than 40,000 square meters of membrane houses, Viet Tien commune is calling the farmers to change the cultivation method toward higher productivity and value.
Regarding the long term measure, the district should create the close linkage between producing, processing and consuming organic products while enhancing the tasks of management, plant protection and encouraging the locals to restrict and replace the non-organic fertilizers and chemical PPP by organic fertilizer and bio PPP with herbal origin as regulation.
Additionally, the local authority should organize more training courses to improve the knowledge and profession about hi-tech agriculture to the farmers, helping create abundant source of safe products for the customers and establish the markets for hi-tech farm produce.
