(BGO) – In the sunshine of early winter, the ripen orange and pomelo are wearing the typical bright yellow that draw many visitors. The line up trees are really eye catching, making the prominent image of Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) on this occasion when it comes to the harvest season of orange and pomelo.
Yellowing the orchards
The hilly orchard of Do Van Quang in Ba village, Quy Son commune covers about 2 hectares with three major trees of yellow flesh orange, sweet orange and green skin pomelo grown in separate areas.

One month ago, the tradesmen bought all green skin pomelo totally worth nearly 50 million VND (over 2,100 USD). Now, Quang is harvesting the yellow flesh orange and later sweet orange.
According to the Chairman of the People’s Committee in Quy Son commune Le Thanh Dong, 50 percent of 4,600 households in the commune cultivated the fruit trees in over 1 hectares. Quy Son is not only famous for large lychee growing area but also for orange and pomelo which are basically developed under VietGAP and GlobalGAP procedures to ensure the food safety.
Besides, family of Tran Dinh En in Tan Truong village, Thanh Hai commune is specialized at developing sweet pomelo. On the ripen fruit season, the visitors to the orchard cannot resist the attraction from the juicy yellow fruits.

The En’s pomelo orchard is located on the low hill where previously the lychee was grown. For over dozens of years, he has boldly introduced the sweet pomelo to replace the lychee, hence his orchard had many big pomelo trees growing in abundance.
With the hardworking and industriousness, his family cares for each pomelo tree under VietGAP technical procedure days and nights. As the result, the trees well develop with less diseases and good taste.
Moving toward community tourism
Luc Ngan is a promise land with naturally favourable climate and soil condition that can nurture almost all of fruit varieties. Now, this land is not only well known as “the Kingdom of lychee” but also a huge scale citrus growing area, mostly orange and pomelo.
Previously, the orange and pomelo were grown in scattered scale at the high field with watering difficulties. Now, thanks to the high economic value, the citrus trees with delicious fruits are cultivated in higher hill with total area of over 6,500 hectare in the district. This year, the orange and pomelo in the district are estimated at about 58,000 tonnes of fruits, helping the farmers earn dozens of billion VND.

Gaining high income from the hilly orchard, many locals in the district built spacious houses as the villas among the fruit trees, making the rural landscape more prosperous.
These change also eases Luc Ngan land to develop the community based tourism on the ripen fruit season which is paid due attention to in several provinces and cities.
Representative of Green Dream Experimental Education Company Limited Tran Thi Thao said: “On the occasion of the Fair for Orange, Pomelo and Signature Products in Luc Ngan district this year, we plan to take 100 tourists to experience the local fruit orchards. Some travel agencies outside the province inked the coordination agreement about community tourism with our company”.
Numerous visitors are flocking to Luc Ngan district which is well known as “the first ranking fruit area in the Northern area” to join the Fair for Orange, Pomelo and Signature Products in the district.
Here, they can immerge among the nature to discover and experience the fruit orchards created by the industriousness and creativeness of the local ethnic minority groups.
