Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai attended the online opening ceremony for the 6th China – South Asia Expo held in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China, on December 12.
The event aims to promote the potential of Yunnan Province, an important gateway in the Southwest region of China with a population of about 200 million people and an important geopolitical position in the “One Belt And One Road” strategy of the Chinese Government in order to boost comprehensive cooperation with South Asian and ASEAN countries.

The expo is also an important economic and political event in the Southwestern region of China supported by the Chinese Government.
The expo has been held annually for five consecutive years attracting much attention from the Vietnamese side. Senior Vietnamese leaders and enterprises have attended the event, including the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung in 2016 and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam in 2018.
A number of activities of the expo will be held online due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
More than 130 Vietnamese enterprises in various fields including agriculture, seafood, processed food, wood products, consumption goods and others have participated in the event in an online format.
Enterprises also have opportunities to attend online forums on trade exchange and import and export activities within the framework of the expo.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, despite the coronavirus pandemic, bilateral trade revenue between Vietnam and China reached US$119.1 billion in the first 10 months of this year, up 6.1% over the same period in 2019.
The China – South Asia Expo 2020 will take place until December 18.
